Installomator to Jamf app catalog transition UE

Hi all - quick question for anyone who’s transitioned from Installomator to Jamf App Catalog:

We’ve used Installomator for apps like Slack because our users don’t have admin rights. They can elevate with JIT, but we’re still seeing repeated prompts when Slack tries to auto-update - frustrating and confusing for users.

Would switching to the Jamf App Catalog solve this? Has it been reliable for Slack updates in non-admin environments? Did anything break or get worse when you moved off Installomator?

Also - in general, what’s your go-to tool for patch management? I know it depends on the app, but is there anything close to a one-size-fits-all solution?

Thanks in advance

I use the JAC to update web browsers along with various other applications; for end users who lack admin rights; have never gotten a compliant from end users asking for admin rights, regarding those applications. seems to work well. my only compliant is that you have no control over when the updates actually occur as far as I know. in my experience they are typically completed in a timely fashion; however there is no 'do it now' button as far as I am aware.

All that said depending on the app, sometimes I hand it off to installomator, as you said it all depends on the app; that said, I've been pleased with the JAC, overall.

Have you every transitioned from one deployment tool to another?  UE is what concerns me by doing this?

We use a kind of hybrid, JAMF App Catalogue, Patch Management and Installomator aswell it depends on the Application and severity of the vulnerability we receive.

you can move to JAMF App Catalogue for Slack, I don't think so anything will fail.

Do you propose that I just disable the Installomator policy and that the JAC will pick up the updates going forward on the existing installation?

We got away from App Catalog to App Auto Patch. We use installomator for initial deployments. We did this b/c with AAP, it's a defined cadence vs whenever the patch comes out. We got complaints of notification fatigue. Apps like Google Chrome have so many patches users got very annoyed.

Notification fatigue is real - thankfully if you do use the Jamf App Catalog it can be customized. Default is daily notifications - we dropped to weekly for this exact reason.
