Hi all! I am a relatively new Jamf admin and in the process of getting our environment ready to migrate our Macs from Intune. I am running into a few issues, but the one I want to discuss now is the rollout of apps. I was originally rolling out our apps from Jamf App Catalog directly, which worked. The main issue with that was the speed. It would take hours for the apps to install on the end device. I ended up trying out Installomator, which is better. The apps now come down in minutes as opposed to hours.
Ideally, I would like the apps to be already installed when the user reaches the desktop, like how a Windows machine is provisioned from Intune. In my research, I came across the Jamf Concepts page, and subsequently found out about Setup Manager. To my understanding, this will do what I need it to.
I do have a few concerns though. I have Jamf Connect in a workable (not quite perfect, but getting there!) state, and am worried about losing that configuration. Setup Manager seems to run on top on Setup Assistant, but does it provide the same functionality alongside installing apps and profiles? Or is it running in tandem. Also, about how long does it take for the whole process to run. Does it have to download and install the apps before it will work. At what point does the login screen to enroll come up? Or is this still through Jamf Connect?
I would love to hear if anyone has deployed Setup Manager with any success, and what their experience has been like using it!

Currently I use Setup Your Mac coupled with Installomator policies which works great. However, I do want to mimic the windows experience so I'm about to deploy Setup manager with Jamf Connect and it takes about 20-30 minutes total (assuming no updates need to be applied). It also reduces my overhead b/c JSM includes Installomator functionality in the process so you don't need seperate policies for those items.

That is good to know about Setup Manager including Installomator built-in. Should help to streamline the process a bit. And 20-30 minutes is a good timeline. Thanks for the help.
Keep me posted when you get that deployed!

Here's my experience below in a blog post. We are using Jamf Setup Manager now. I'd say give it a test. For Jamf Connect, I saw mentions about it on Slack. You could get help in the Setup Manager channel.
