Apple TV - Won't play movies from Camera Roll

It's only an issue that has popped up in the last few months, but we can't seem to play video from the camera roll on the Apple TV's.

It will display the starting image with the play symbol, but as soon as you tap to play it goes to a black screen. We have no issues with normal pictures from the camera roll.

All of our Apple TV's are managed by our Casper Suite.

The issue isn't related to our devices enrolled in casper either, I have the same issue projecting videos from my personal iPhone.

@andrew.nield We saw this too.

How are the clients connecting to the AppleTV:

  • Peer to peer
  • same wireless network

@bentoms

We're connecting via the same wireless network. We also have half of our apple TV's plugged into ethernet and we are having the same issue.

@andrew.nield I think we saw it with peer-to-peer, may have been an AppleTV OS Update that resolved.

I'll need to test when back in the office.

Hello Jamf Community,

Many users have recently reported that Apple TV no longer plays videos from the iPhone Camera Roll—a problem where the video preview appears with a play symbol, but tapping it leads to a black screen. Photos still work fine, and the issue persists even on personal, unmanaged devices, indicating it's likely a software-related glitch. Until Apple resolves this bug, a practical alternative for watching videos seamlessly is to use a free streaming app like Telelatino, which supports a wide variety of formats and offers smooth playback—download it now to keep enjoying your favorite content without interruptions.
